What is Freeride?
22 October

Is this freeride?

Is this freeride?

Many have fumbled over the definition of what Freeride mountainbiking is really about. Most have failed. Some have marketed products using the name, others tried to claim it for themselves.

I went in search of answers, and I found more than I had ever dreamed possible: Enlightenment.

It is a known fact that there are at least four known disciplines of mountain biking.

[...] it is a free-movement type of mountain biking. It is also popularly called as the Big Hit.

Wireless camelbak prototype

Most of the other All Terrain Cycling websites have been covering Interbike to death, but was there any real innovations behind all the marketing turd?

In my view, the biggest development spotted isn't even for the bike itself. Camelbak were keeping fairly quiet, but they had a prototype satchel featuring their new wireless mouthpiece.

Using a small Bluetooth transmitter on the bladder, the iPak is able to maintain a flow of 8mbps, which is the equivalent of about two sips from a normal system. The current proto has a limited range, so you still have to have the bladder on your back, but it won't be long - according to Jefferson Bak, the company's owner - before you'll be able to leave the whole pack at home and just take the mouthpiece.

"You'll still need to remember to fill it up though!", he joked.
