Specialized SX Trail
7 October

My weapon of choice for a season of riding in BC. Instead of the usual parts list, here's the death toll after >3 months of riding hard across the province:

  • Fox DHX4.0 - blown twice (shonky repair 1st time I reckon)
  • 05 66Rs - rebound cartridge tightened, later replaced, seals replaced, oil changed twice. Stanchions now beaten to hell.
  • Thomson seatpost - replaced for Titec Scoper for hauling up Mt.Fromme
  • SRAM shifter - torn off at Silverstar Bike Park, replaced with 07 version
  • Tyres - High Roller SR front almost dead, Minion ST rear - on no.2 so far
  • SRAM X7 rear mech - bent beyond reasonable doubt
  • Saint brakes - rear bled just the once. Pads replaced. Awesome stoppers

Not a bad bodycount given the amount of riding it's notched up - okay, so not too much actual pedalling ... but I've killed more stuff at Chicksands over a similar period.

How does it compare in slackness compared to the last bike?

Well, it's probably about the same, but with a higher BB to deal with 1.5" more travel at each end. Basically wanted a similar ride feel, but more burl, and it's kinda there. Not quite as planted as the S-Works was, and a bit rowdy at high speeds being shorter, but for a bit of everything (tending down, tech, with skinnies and gnar) it's a rocker!
