Chocolate LogA Tale of Two Rides
21 August
We met some Base Jumpers on the way round.
Tis the season of Epic. Johnny Smoke once again delivered the good stuff in the form of two classic rides out in the Okanagan. Vehicular conspiracies and intermittent rain tried to keep us off the trails, but the will was good and the gods were kind. Ride One: Hillbilly, Kelowna
Up into the hills behind Kelowna and there's a singletrack nirvana nestled among the burnt spires of trees torched by fire. There were scattered signs of stunts that were once here, but as it's now a provincial park, it's strictly natural. Lush tall grasses, a scattering of jagged rocks, flowing singletrack - eight miles of it, mostly downhill, most of the time - and some views to feed your eyes, this was a soul ride. We barely stopped for breath other than to climb over deadfallen trees. Ride Two: Builders Only / Powers CreekAfter some repairs on both vehicles, we were able to head up the dirt road to hit Builders Only. Kit and Zak had a lap under their belts already, and rumour had it that Kit had sent the big roadgap on the way down. I'd had it in mind to hit it on two previous visits, and now we had a guinea-pig... The singletrack connecting the many stunts on Builders is a classic twisty, fast rip, and the slightly damp stunts added a little more interest. We made it to Crazy Train, then hiked up to the roadgaps. Post a comment |

It was a right mental battle getting off that thing, even after Bart and Zak pinned it. You go so fast on the runout bowl it's amusing enough trying to miss the trees on the hill on the other side.
Forum is back up, just a blip, typically occurring while I'm out of range.

OOHH that brings back memories. With the Jedi crew, i did that drop after breaking my front brake. Did the gap, through the compression but aiming at the tree and unable to avoid it and no brake, WHAM.
