An interview with a freerider II
24 May

Born to ride, Tom and Father

Actual size

It turns out that some of us have lives when we are not wasting our time in chat rooms and we could be out riding. This new feature is an attempt to get you uncomfortably close to the people behind the pixels.

Second up under the spotlight is GREASE MONKEY.

Q: Your FULL name:

'Thomas James Sherlock'

Q: How did you stumble upon CF?

'I was advised to look on choccy foot by someone on STW, about 4 years ago, no i wasn't banned from there! but i think they thought my posts suited choccy foot better tha STW.'

Q. Why the chosen login name?

'I was always working on either my own or fixing mates bikes when they broke things, got a bit of a reputation for it eventually.'

Q: Its my round, what can I get you?

'A pint of Tetley's please mate'

Q: How do you pay for your nasty bike habit?

'I’m a builder but I’ve just started my own bike workshop (Custom Rides) which will hopefully become my full time employment.'

Q: If you had a daughter, WHICH forum member would you leave to look
after her for the weekend and take her swimming whilst you hit up the trails?

'Any of the lads I ride with regularly (Wa, Riz, Whitish, Kieran, James and Spanner) they’re all pretty sound, plus it would be hilarious to see Wa or Kieran looking after a kid!'

Q: If you had a daughter, WHO IS THE LAST forum member would you leave to look after her for the weekend and take her swimming whilst you hit up the trails?

'Dan or Hora both are complete tits IMO, I wouldn’t trust either with a pile of shit let alone my daughter! (not that I have one)'

Big gap

Tom floats a big gap ,Chatel.

Q: Is Hora a cunt?

'YES! He has no consideration for others, I get on well with most folk I meet, but he is such an ignorant selfish tool, I cannot stand him!'

Q: Have you ever paid for sex?

'No, and I hope I never will.'

Q: Riding snack of choice?

'A Snickers bar, not exactly healthy but a nice treat when your hanging , mid way through a big day on the hill.'

Q: You have caught the Aids and can only ride 3 UK spots again before you die.
Your top 3 please: (please be specific and name trails rather than places).

1. Abercarn Dh course
2. Blandford Freeride Park
3. The secret spot in Kent

Q: Which living person do you most despise and why?

'Don’t know really, I’m fairly easy going and get on well with most people, so no-one in particular springs to mind, although anyone who tries to dictate what others do, I’m not that keen on!'

Q: How many bikes do you own?

'Only one at the moment, an Orange 66, and despite what everyone on here says, it is sweet as! I’m about to drop the hammer on a new DH rig too, but I’m not sure what, the agony of choice eh!'

Q: You hit a Badger on a fast descent, it is seriously injured and makes a disturbing noise like a wining baby not usually associated with animals.
Do you:

  1. Leave the fucker. You spent all day driving to get there and you not letting it spoil your day.

  2. Remove your seat post and smite the beast as you don't want to see it suffer.

  3. Gather the badger up in you arms and let it drink from your camel pack whilst you escort it to the vet, you can always ride another day.

  4. If other... please explain:

'No. 3 probably; couldn’t let it suffer, (yes, poof I know) but I don’t have a Camelbak so would my old Lucozade bottle do?'

Q: The worst biking injury so date, any pics?

'I was riding trials about 5 years ago and I fell face first into a hardpack gravel fire track form about 4ft, I smashed the whole left hand side of my face up and trapped a nerve in my neck I couldn’t do anything for 2 weeks and even after that it took a while to get going fully again. The pain in my head was incredible! I have two broken wrist at the moment too, but that wasn’t done through biking.'

Tom Injured

The result of the ladder drop.

Q: Do you have a phobia you would like to share?

'No phobias as such, but I’m scared of losing my family and girlfriend, and also becoming paralysed or blind.'

Q: We all let our high standards slip on occasions so on the scale of 1 (mingin) - 10 (fit) what's the ugliest girl/boy you have ever slept with?

'Well, I’m pretty lucky so I’d have to say 9.5'.
