Johnny Smoke and the Cove Mingeebollockwanker prototype

Johnny Smoke and the Cove Mingeebollockwanker Prototype

After enjoying the delights of a Coveman breakfast at Honey's Cafe in Deep Cove on Vancouver's North Shore, a short stroll up to the Cove Bike Shop turned up this little shocker.

It's a shorter travel (around 7") version of the more DH oriented Shocker, and is as yet unnamed. Suggestions abound, including Mingeebollockwanker and Minge (also available in Ginger).

The new Cove Mingeebollockwanker prototype

This is the first prototype and as such is still very much work in progress, and it had various holes and shims in place where they were obviously tweaking the VPP-style suspension action.

The guys at Cove lent it to Johnny Smoke for a day of testing on the trails of Mount Seymour.

First impressions were good - it's designed to hit a more freeride oriented audience so it's lighter and more compact that its pa the Shocker, and the looks are sharper with the almost-straight seattube and tidy gussets. The proto had a longer wheelbase than many new breed slopestyle sussers so it should be more than capable of taking on some high-speed DH race action.

All being well, expect to see it on these shores next year.

me want

hows about Cove Doggystyle, or dogging, Cove Feltcher!!

Posted by: Sui at August 16, 2006 06:48 PM

I think Santa Claus VP Fwee would be a good name for it.

Or Wayne.

Posted by: walleater at August 16, 2006 07:24 PM

The Felcher was suggested, as was the Snatch, both quality options.

Posted by: wa at August 16, 2006 07:28 PM

Had a look at that a while back. Looks pretty good until you put it next to Rando's 7" Freeride Reign.

Posted by: JCL at August 16, 2006 07:40 PM

Sweet as. Best pics I've seen so far of this... looking forward to trying it out next year. What was the verdict on the Totem? Thats the coil one there right?

Posted by: Zombies at August 16, 2006 09:20 PM

whats rando's 7incher then jcl? surely you dont actually like something thats not a specialized!!! ;-)

that mingey does look sweet in the flesh, but then again so does the shocker imo

Posted by: monkey at August 16, 2006 09:31 PM

looks class, but nothing that hasn't been done really

looks like you have to have 5,6,7,8 & 9 ins travel bikes in your line up

Posted by: Wilko at August 16, 2006 09:53 PM

i think the cove 'cunt' would be a fantastic idea. infact, a marketing mans dream.

Posted by: thenorth at August 16, 2006 10:48 PM

Monkey,

Beefed up Reign. They had a further tweeked proto at Crankworks that weighed nothing. Plus the freeride Glory too !!! Easily the sweetest 07 bikes I've seen.

Posted by: JCL at August 16, 2006 10:59 PM

Cove Twat? 7" travel allrounder eh? Bullit you say?

Posted by: dom at August 17, 2006 09:58 AM

That Totem looks nice and beefy.

Posted by: yorkie at August 17, 2006 10:28 AM

Personally I think that it's a toss up between 'the Cove Cuntpuncher' and 'the Cove Bagpiper' to epitomise that particular bit of linkybolocks.

Posted by: wa at September 16, 2006 06:22 PM

Duncan- "Yes, thats all very well, but how will it cope with UK mud and grit? Eh?"

If it can handle the dirt and grit of the Vancouver North Shore year round and wet days at Whistler up on Garbonzo, trust me it can survive anywhere in the world.
