BMX Racing ain't like it used to be in my day

Mike at Dialled Bikes unearthed a recently updated site where you can get your hands on a bunch of BMX racing videos, some which are very old skool indeed.

It takes some serious skill to ride that smooth, whatever bike you ride, plus with that much commitment and pedalling your arse off the whole time. Look at the difference between the old days and today and you can see how much the level's gone up. Unlike the level of the commentating which plateaud during the first ever BMX race in Utrecht, 1931.

You have to join-up to download, but it's instant, not like the exclusive CF forum where you need your mum to write us a letter before we let her in.

You in.

Okay, so it ain't ATBing (unlike this, this and this) but it's all good on wheels I say.

Next week: ASDA Trolleys, a six-part history in Powerpoint.

Nice one WA, I didn't know you cared (about BMX).

You're right though, BMX has come a long way since those 80's tracks. I originally rode BMX from 1980 to 1986. When I got back into it in 1991 and went to a race, I knocked myself unconscious on a set of doubles, broke 2 bones in my hand and lost 4 teeth!

Tracks these days take immense skill to ride at full pelt. They're fuggin scary!

You seen the downhill BMX section in Earthed 2 yet? Fuckin amazing.

Only seen pics and so far have been gutted never to have seen it on TV or video as all the pics in the mags looked mental and the events looked pretty slickly run (at Woodward?).

I think the downhill BMX is a different element to normal BMX. More emphasis on high speed and huge jumps in DH BMX compared to normal BMX which is now high speed and tech (manualling 4/6/8 packs at speed).

Will make a point to get Earthed 2 to see it.
