Edale Loop
9 January
Edale > Mam Tor > Hayfield > Edale. We rode this after we beat the Germans 5-1 at their manor. Needless to say, it didn't make it any easier.

Ride Details

Distance: 17 Miles
Grade:

Hard
Steep, rocky, loose climbing and descending with one or two

Time taken: 5 - 8 hrs depending on whether England win 5 - 1 away to Germany the day before you ride it
Summary:

This loop can be ridden either way round, varying the climb/descent at Hollins Cross with a similar one at Mam Tor. I personally prefer riding down Jacob's Ladder and Rushup Edge, but it's great either way round.

Technical climbs and descents will test you to the limit, I guarantee that you will not make it up all the climbs, but you'll want to try.

Map Notes

Start at the carpark near the station in Edale.

Pick your direction and off you go.

This route has been in all the magazines and all over the web plenty of times, so I won't waste my time rewriting it all here.

It's not hard to navigate, just be careful to stay on the bridleways or you'll get us all in trouble.

The jury is out on whether this is best going UP or DOWN Jacob's Ladder.

I vote DOWN!!!

top riding the peaks is quite technical in places. try the peveril castle gorge descent and remember...don't dab.

I always park in Heyfield (much cheaper than Edale) and do the loop so I ride up Jacobs ladder to Edale Cross, then drop to Hayfield, Its a push/ride up and a balls out desent to the car. If you've got the energy, when you get to the bottem of the last desent (From the 'cross) the road bears left steeply up hill. When you get to the crest of this hill there is a white marker stone on the RHS. Go left uphill here (Signed Pennine Bridleway) to a gate. Through gate and follow singletrack for a very sweet finish to a fantastic ride

Done both ways lots of times. Better ride all told if you go up jacobs ladder-better descents down the Gorge to Edale, on Rushup edge and especially from Hayfiels through the Roych. 3 hours is an okay time with stops. That means you can do the 'shooting cabin' descent (one of the best descents in the peaks!) in the afternoon. Its just north of Hayfield. All welcome.
