How Very West Coast, My Dear

Totally West Coast

How very West Coast

Post ride convoy to the pub, after a ride up on Burke, Coquitlam, BC.

A pretty classic site around town.

I wonder why this style of rack isn’t found in the UK, as they’re way handier than those stupid things with all the dangly bits you have to tie on.

  1. Sol,

I had one of those till someone drove into the back of my car…

Pretty effective if you don’t mind bikes on the outside of a car.

  2. Kieran,

That looks a neat solution. I take it it uses a tow bar mount? Who produces them?

  3. They use a square hitch, there’s two sizes here – I think it’s 2″ and 1.5″. This is the smaller of the two, and basically the rack just slots into a hole in the hitch, which is mounted to the bottom of the car.

Yakima, Thule, Sportrack and a bunch of others make the racks, but I think the mounts are the problem in the UK – it may be because the rack is really just held on by one bolt, unlike the ball mount type.
